Characteristics/Geography[edit | edit source]

Palo Duro canyon is a beautiful canyon in the heart of Texas. It is not dissimilar to the Grand Canyon, but the fact of the matter is that the wilderness of the Palo Duro canyon extends much further, some 230 miles. The actual canyon runs for 120 miles. It is so large that it is easy to get lost in the canyon. The canyon is mostly wilderness of all types, and human habitation is sparse beyond the main national park. In the canyon, one can visit Goddess villages, and one may also encounter bandits. Wild animals are not uncommon either. To defend the villages against attack by anything, a system of people known as Adventurers are employed.

However, the most interesting part of the canyon is the paranormal aspect of it. The canyon as a whole acts as a location where elements of a faraway realm, Arscil, can intrude into our own world. This intrusion, facilitated by Arscil Souls, allows all sorts of unique beings to exist. There are even goddesses that inhabit the canyons! The paranormal are prevented from accessing the rest of the world by a barrier at the edge of the canyon.

The fact that the canyon is where the goddesses are found has to do with the fact that Arscil itself is an infinite canyon, which itself results from Iretha's own love of canyons (since Arscil is her mindscape imposed into reality by her soul power). However, it is not known if the goddesses made the canyon or if they just knew a canyon would form where they landed, considering they arrived millions of years before the actual canyon was carved out.

History[edit | edit source]

The Canyon was formed over millions of years due to erosion by rivers and weather. The main body of the canyon was formed around 1.5 million years ago by a river, though the layers of the canyon date back to the Permian around 300 million years ago.
The area of Texas was settled by native american cultures more than 15,000 years ago, where they began to develop their culture.
The area that would become the canyon was given to the canyon goddesses hundreds of millions of years ago after their skirmish with God, resulting in the barrier enclosing the region. Since then, the canyon has been the site of numerous paranormal events. The civil war of the Ancients, the formation of the canyon goddesses, and the goddess' lives today all center around the canyon.

Relation to Kas[edit | edit source]

Kas used to live adjacent to the canyon, but based on the number of adventures he has within it, you could also say that it comprises half of his home. One time, Kas even got stuck in the canyon for a whole 9 months! The canyon is a major influence on Kas' life as he not only spends considerable time exploring it, in his job as a canyon caretaker he even gets payed to protect it!

Kas currently lives full time within the canyon in the various goddess villages.

Questions[edit | edit source]

If the canyon was made millions of years after the goddesses, does that mean the goddesses made the canyon, or did they just know a canyon would be eventually created there?
