This article refers to the actual being of a soul. If you want the details on the fundamental element that comprises all sentient life (and especially the life within the canyon or Arscil) please visit Arscil Soul.
Characteristics[edit | edit source]
A soul is the immaterial part of a person. It is a reflection of the sum total of their neural patterns; their synaptic patterns (memories) and synaptic connections (beliefs, ideals, personality, etc.) that makes a person who they are.
A soul can also refer to a deceased sentient being (like a human or arscillian) whose neural pattern persists after their physical brain's death. Their soul is then sent to the realm of Arscil in which a Goddess has chosen for them. People who do not die in the canyon do not get their neural patterns recorded and therefore are not sent to the afterlife of arscil.
Souls are thought to be preserved by the goddesses, most especially Cyve, the goddess of life. Souls can be "edited" by Goddesses through subliminal enlightenment to create things like reincarnation (Coyote), mortal incarnations, and possibly even Kas' Aura.
Your soul can be liberated without dying by a near death experience. This can allow you to temporarily travel to Arscil without having to die.
While normal souls are weak, Arscil Souls, which form the fundamental component of all paranormal beings and items within the canyon, are not weak. They all contain elements of Iretha's imagination, which separates them from normal souls and allows for easier access to power.
Individuals/Kas' Encounters[edit | edit source]
Kas' primary experience with souls is that his own soul is a reincarnated version of Coyote's soul.
Kas also helped a lost soul, that of a girl, return to her home in Mt. Amelia. Her ghost mom thanked Kas for returning the ghost home (possibly allowing her to get to Arscil)
